Bar Speed Indicator – For Range Bars, Renko Bars, Tick Bars, Volume Bars and More…
The bar speed indicator was created to measure the speed of the current market. When using time based charts such as a 60 minute chart, we can see exactly how far price moves within a given time period. However, with bars that are not time based we cannot easily see how much time it took for each bar to form. Depending on the type of chart used, the output will tell you different information about the market. For example:

Tick Bars
– If a bar takes very little time to form, we know that there is heavy trading activity the market

Volume Bars
– If a bar takes very little time to form, we know that there is heavy volume coming through the market
-
Range Bars
– If a bar takes very little time to form, we know that the market is moving quickly
-
Renko Bars
– If a bar takes very little time to form, we know that the market is moving quickly
The Bar Speed Indicator can be useful on any bars that are not time based. The indicator is available for both the NinjaTrader and TradeStation platforms.

Can't wait to try the BARSPEED indicator.
I don't want to sit and stare at the TradeStation screen all day long.
With this indicator I can set an Alert to notify me when things are picking-up above a certain activity level.

I downloaded & installed bar timer for NT8 but have a problem. On a 30 range chart I get the error message "Bar timer only works on intraday time based intervals". How do I fix this? Thanjs
The Bar Timer indicator is built in to NT8. You downloaded the Bar Speed indicator. The error message you are referring to comes from the Bar Timer indicator, not the Bar Speed indicator.
What is used to calculate the speed of each bar? Is it counting how much volume and how fast the volume is?
The speed is calculated based on time. If you are using time based charts, the speed will be the same for every bar. The indicator is meant to work on other bar types such as renko, range, point and figure, etc.
